Chloe's Wheelchair Van
Wrong diagnosis ultimately ended in a goofed hip replacement which paralyzed my femoral nerve 100%.
My name is ChloèAnna Sheets-Ortiz, I was married to a Military Officer and moved 16 times in 23 years. Lack of continuity of healthcare and wrong diagnosis ultimately ended in a goofed hip replacement which paralyzed my femoral nerve 100%.
I was an active healthy autoimmune compromised person who ended up in a powerchair. I was no longer able to teach JRHS Spec.Ed and found myself in a pickle. I’m also a Type 1 diabetic with severe neuropathy in my lower legs. I’ve had C-2 through C-6 rebuilt and now find myself facing Neurosurgery again, 5 discs in my lower back. I found myself newly remarried and newly unable to walk since 4-1-13. Honestly, I miss driving, I miss going anywhere by myself. My heart breaks when my husband is sick or hurt and I’m unable to take him to the doctor or hospital.
I miss being independent and I miss being a partner to my husband…like I used to be before the surgeon ruined my leg. I took walking and driving for granted, the thought of driving again independently gives me hope that long ago died. I never thought to look for an organization who helped those who lack the ability to help themselves. My cousin found this group and gave them my name. This to me is still quite surreal and I am grateful. I thank you for your time and consideration. First photo prior to ordering the powerchair, in denial after first neurosurgery.
Hip replacement 4-1-13, C-Spine rebuild 12-26-13. Didn’t even order the powerchair until fall 2015 after Nerve Conductive Study done at San Antonio Army Fort showed 0% nerve function. I just sorta gave up after that, I’d only been married a year when I had the hip replacement debacle.
