A Future for Shadays

Shadays is an 8 month old premie, with cleft pallet syndrome. Her 19 year old mother is practically still a kid, herself.

When we met the two of them, mom (Genesis) was selling lollipops on the street corner to survive a brief bout with homelessness. She was mostly being ignored, and the only people who offered to "help" were pimps. You can just imagine the kind of help they were offering.

Mind you, this is in the middle of a New York winter, and Shadays is a premie who doesn't have a strong immune system.

We got them off the streets and into a weekly rental that same day, so they wouldn't freeze, but they still have several needs that we can help with.

Shadays only has one outfit, needs diapers and formula, and her stroller was destroyed by a neighbor who urinated on it and stomped on it when she left it in the hallway.

Her husband works for a meager wage, and will be able to provide for them once they get stable, but we want to give them a hand up to get there.

We are raising this fund to help them pay their first 2 months of rent, and for baby items for Shadays.

In case you're wondering, because she's immunocompromised, it's too early for Shadays to get surgery for her cleft pallet. We will be reaching out to organizations to help mom apply for Shriners help or Operation Smile, when the time comes, which her doctors recommend after she turns 2.

I hope that parents with small children will understand their delicate situation. I can't imagine fighting to survive with a little baby on the streets.

We are going to make sure it never happens again, and we're adopting the cause of this little girl for the near future.
