Jason's Wheelchair Van
This is my younger brother Jason. He was born with CP and has never been able to walk.
He has had several operations throughout the years, but they were not any help. He's 52 now and it's getting harder for him to get around. He's married and has a 16-year-old son living at home. They don't have hardly any money and he has NEVER asked anyone for help.
He worked as a telemarketer selling siding and windows for years, but he can't get around good enough to do that anymore, so he babysits his grandkids. He took karate lessons for years and earned a black belt. I've seen him show more ambition and try harder to earn a dollar for his family than most men without a disability.
He crawls for the most part to get around but that has his knees and feet really screwed up so he's in a wheelchair. Their car is falling apart from rust and tons of miles and the frame is rotten as well. He can barely get in and out of it. I'm worried if he falls while getting in or out it will screw his knees up or even worse.
He had to buy a new furnace and have extensive wiring problems fixed in his house so that put them in the hole even further. His wife is a good woman and works hard but with only one income it makes things rough. She also has bad knees and it’s getting harder for her to get around as well. I'm worried that when their car does finally quit running, she might lose her job as well. The car they had gave out two weeks ago and a family member is letting them borrow a car for the time being but who knows how long that will last.
They really need a wheelchair accessible van to get him back and fourth to his doctor appointments and to the store.
