Noah's Wheelchair Van

Noah is almost 12 yrs old, his whole life has been in and out of the hospital.

He was born at a normal 7.2 lbs a beautiful boy with a beautiful heart, at 6 wks old he came down with RSV, was in hospital 11 long scary days. Doctors said it was one of the worst cases they had seen. After he came home it we were constantly asking, "is Noah breathing ok?, does he need a treatment?" The RSV and genetics had left him with pretty severe asthma.

Noah wasn't able to have a normal life as he spent most of it hospitalized every few weeks. It was never very long before we were back in the hospital.

By the time Noah started school the ER in the pediatric unit knew us by name he was quite the popular guy. The little boy with the heart of gold who just couldn't catch a break. School was a no go. He was home or in the hospital more than he was there, the kids would forget about him because he just was never able to be there. A cold to one kid was deadly to Noah. He couldn't go outside to play, he couldn't participate in gym, but he was so good, and he never complained.

In Sept of 2019 I decided to homeschool Noah, hoping to give his body a break from the constant viruses he caught from other kids at school and it went well until February 1 2020. It started out like any other except I was sick, and Noah was on steroids from a small cold he had the previous week. This particular day he wouldn't relax. He was running around playing video games, but his breathing was getting worse. I couldn't get it under control with his nebulizer. At 5pm I called 911 to take us in to ER. I thought he needed a deep treatment more steroids. I figured we would be home that night or maybe next day, but the EMTs said I was to sick to go with him. My mom went in my place. By evening they decided to keep Noah in the ICU for observation.

I knew in my gut something terribly was wrong finally that night they did an MRI of Noah's brain and discovered that the influenza had infiltrated his brain causing encephalitis. At the time, we didn't know if Noah would ever wake up again. They told me it's so rare in children. Finally after 3 months of being in a coma, Noah started to emerge. His personality started to return, but sadly things were different. It was discovered that Noah's eyesight was compromised due to the encephalitis. He now remains blind. He's still in a wheelchair, he cannot walk, he suffers from quadruparalysis. We're in therapy twice a week and he's doing wonderfully but I still don't know what Noah's long-term prognosis will be or if he will ever walk again.

I'm very blessed that Noah's personality in his heart are very much intact he still the most caring child.
